Data privacy is a primary consideration in the transfer and storage of critical business information especially if the majority of this data resides outside the enterprise on laptops or remote workstations.

Zyvault Online Backup software addresses this with banking standard technologies. Zyvault’s Online Backup software is the only product on the market to incorporate two-factor user authentication and PKI and the only solution to have full certification for RSA Keon, RSA BSAFE, and RSA SecurID.

Data Transfer
The transfer technology in Zyvault Online Backup software makes use of the SSL protocol standard (1024 bit RSA key exchange, 128 bit RC4 stream cipher and SHA-1 integrity checking) for secure data transmission and communication.

Data Storage
Data is stored using 448-bit Blowfish encryption in CBC mode; considerably stronger than the encryption used for Internet banking and online credit card transactions. Encryption keys are not stored with the data and globally recognised techniques ensure the integrity and security of all data protected on the Zyvault Storage Platform.

Backup Security
During each backup, data is encrypted as it is transferred from the user’s computer to the Zyvault Storage Platform using the encryption key that they specify.

This encryption key is seen as a passphrase by the Zyvault Storage Platform. A random encryption key is automatically generated when an account is created and this random key is used to encrypt the user’s files. The encryption key is protected by the passphrase and without this passphrase the user cannot decode the actual encryption key. When the user changes the encryption key in the Zyvault Online Backup software, the actual key is decrypted and re-encrypted with the new passphrase.

The user’s encryption key is not stored anywhere on the Storage Platform, and is only known to them. If the user forgets this encryption key, it will render their data unrecoverable.

Physical Security

While Zyvault’s primary datacentre at Redbus Telecity features the comprehensive access security you would expect of a key London datacentre, our mirror datacentre was pulled straight out of a Bond movie.

The Bunker, is an electromagnetic pulse proof former NATO nuclear bunker whose IT infrastructure was designed by cryptologists and which maintains its own connection to the National Grid. Data transfer between the two is over a dedicated connection and all communications are both SSL secured and encrypted.
